How to Fix Failed To Create D3D Device


Many Steam users have encountered such a frustrating issue: They try to launch their game (usually Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Left 4 Dead 2, etc) on Steam but it fails to open. Instead, they get an error telling them “Failed to create D3D device“.

if you get this issue, don’t worry. Try the following method in the video below and you can fix your “Failed to create D3D device” error.


  1. Go to Steam's Library.
  2. Right-click on the affected game.
  3. Go to Properties > General > Set launch options...
  4. Type in -w 1920 -h 1080
  5. Click OK.

Note that you should change the 1920 and 1080 to the width and height of the recommended resolution on your computer respectively.
